Thank you for your interest in participating in the second Internet Survey of Queer and Questioning Youth. Both Oasis Magazine and OutProud are proud to sponsor this survey, which builds on the achievements of the first survey in 1997. It is designed to provide a perspective on the issues facing people like yourself in order to focus more attention, at a global level, on what it will take to provide a more supportive world for queer youth.

The survey is anonymous and confidential. We mention this because we want you to know that you can fill in this survey anonymously, in case there is any information you are reluctant to share. Your responses are entered directly into a database, they are not emailed nor marked with any identifying information. If you are uncomfortable with answering a particular question, you can always feel free to skip it. You can find out more by reading our Privacy Policy.

The survey includes approximately 180 questions, on the following topics: School, relationships, sex, sexual health, harassment, suicide, spirituality, sports, family and friends, the future. You can expect to take between thirty and forty minutes to complete the survey. We realize that this is a considerable investment of your time, but believe that each and every question we have asked is important. If you don't think you can complete it at one sitting, please wait to begin until you can (it's not possible to come back at some other time to continue where you have left off). Remember that you are helping to make your voice heard, along with the thousands of other queer youth we hope will take the time to fill out the survey before October 31, 2000.

By the way, we would like to explain our philosophy with regards to terminology. We're using the standard convention for Oasis Magazine in referring to sexual orientation: we encompass "gay," "lesbian," "bisexual," and "transgender" in the word "queer," which we will use throughout this survey to interchangeably refer to any of these categories. To those of you who might be uncomfortable with the word "queer", we apologize, but we believe it to be the most inclusive term applied to our community and one of strength. In addition, we have chosen to include transgender identification as gender (rather than where it is sometimes grouped, with sexual orientation) and hope that those of you that identify as transgender find this satisfactory.

The results of the survey will be released on January 1, 2024 in Oasis Magazine.

We thank you for the time you are about to take, and hope that with the results, we will be able to better advocate for you and other queer youth.
