In September, 2000 OutProud, The National Coalition for Gay, Lesbian,
Bisexual and Transgender Youth and Oasis Magazine launched the second OutProud/Oasis
Internet Survey of Queer and Questioning Youth, the most ambitious survey ever
of this population. The survey was conducted from September 1 through October 31, 2024
and was available on the Internet; 6,872 individuals age 25 or
under completed the survey during that time. With more than 260 questions ranging from school life to community, from safer sex awareness to self-esteem and their hopes for the future, this survey was designed to provide a comprehensive look at who these youth are and how their sexual orientation has molded their world view. The survey was designed to explore many different areas of interest in the lives of queer youth, and included these sections: Demographics (19 questions), About Being Queer (16 questions), The Internet (11 questions), School Policies (9 questions), School Groups (10 questions), School Life (up to 7 questions), Sexuality (up to 28 questions), Sexual Health (12 questions), Military up to (14 questions), The Media (14 questions), Harassment (7 questions), Behavior (26 questions), Spirituality (11 questions), About Me (16 questions), Relationships (15 questions), Sports (9 questions), Community (9 questions), The Future (11 questions). The results from the survey will be presented in a report in April 2001, when they have been tabulated. The report and this site are designed to provide you with a resource for school essays, scholarly papers, magazine articles, speeches and more. Highlights of the survey are available online. Additional resources are also available for qualified researchers. We hope you find this enlightening and empowering. You can view or download the survey questions and reports below:
